On Saturday May 11th, six thousand cat lovers and their felines gathered in downtown Oakland, CA to participate in the city’s first Internet Cat Video Festival. The block party which began at 3.00pm featured local bands dressed up as cats, comedians telling cat jokes and dozens of booths selling hand-crafted cat merchandise.

However, the highlight of the festival began at about 7.30pm after the sun set, when the crowd settled down to watch a 70 minute 'movie' that was beamed onto the wall of a 10-story building in the city's historic downtown area. As you have probably guessed by now, the entire blockbuster comprised of clips of the most viral cat videos on the Internet, put together by the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, who came up with the idea of this festival, last summer. Judging from the success of both events, we have a feeling that this is going to end up being an annual tradition all over the country.
